About

Hi, I’m Britta Lee and I am so excited to introduce you to my new project, I | A M | V I C T O R I O U S. I’d like to tell you what led to this concept; but first, let me introduce myself.

I am a University of Michigan Ann Arbor graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. I also hold a Broadcast Media Arts diploma from Specs Howard School of Media Arts. Shortly after graduating from Specs Howard, I interned at WDIV Local 4 in Detroit. Thereafter, I began a brief career as a television news reporter and multimedia journalist at WLUC TV-6 in Negaunee, Michigan. Previously, I’d written for several newspapers in the Detroit and surrounding areas. These experiences helped build the foundation for knowledge and expertise in journalism & writing; however, life experience led me to creating I | A M | V I C T O R I O U S.

I’ve spent most of my adult life battling alcoholism and mental illness. What began as a coping mechanism in college for severe depression and anxiety soon took over my life after being diagnosed with PTSD stemming from a violent assault. It wasn’t until years later that I recognized the magnitude of these challenges.

After deciding to walk away from television news after a short stint, I knew my heart was still in journalism. I could not, however, imagine how to return with a purpose that made the journey less about me, and more about others. What began as a vague concept for a website that would provide support and information for those battling mental illness and addiction would not come to fruition until I first helped myself. After countless attempts to “get clean”, I finally did so in November 2023.

I was able to enter recovery on serious and consistent terms, thanks to strengthening my spirituality and learning to walk the walk, and not just talk the talk.  With a renewed interest in journalism, I began to wonder.  How can I take my skillset and use it to explore topics that involve my greatest personal challenges?

Hence, the birth of I | A M | V I C T O R I O U S.

We face a serious mental health and substance abuse crisis across the globe. My mission is to create a platform where people can get information, share ideas and find the support they need to try and break free from these societal ills.

This is NOT your average news blog. It is not just about the written word; I will also be sharing video stories, interviews, and so much more. What you see now is just a glimpse of things to come. My hope is that you will find something that encourages you, whether you’re battling addiction, mental illness, or just concerned about general health and nutrition. I | A M | V I C T O R I O U S is about becoming your best self, and taking practical steps to get there.

I’ve spent time building EVERYTHING you see on the site. Yes, I’m a nerd and proud; I love the behind the scenes work of web design, writing, camera work, and video editing, to name a few. I am thrilled to bring awareness to issues related to overall health and wellness. As a person in recovery, this project is near and dear to my heart.

I AM. YOU ARE. WE ARE  V I C T O R I O U S.
