RE:VAMP: Finding My Way Forward When I Haven’t Felt Like Myself
Sometimes progress shows up right when you need proof that you’re still moving forward.
I needed that proof.
The last few months have taken a lot out of me. I have dealt with challenges in my personal life, changes in my health and periods when the energy I usually have for the things I love simply has not been there. At times, I have felt discouraged, depleted and forced to slow down.
I have not stopped.
There is an important difference between the two.
We often imagine progress as something that feels exciting while it is happening. We picture ourselves waking up motivated, checking goals off a list and feeling increasingly inspired as everything begins falling into place.
My experience lately has looked much less polished.
Some days, progress has simply meant doing the next thing in front of me. It has meant getting up, making a better choice, moving my body, taking care of something I had been avoiding or creating when I could find enough energy to create. On the days when I did not do any of those things particularly well, progress sometimes meant trying again the next day.
There has been nothing especially glamorous about it.
Somewhere along the way, though, those seemingly small choices began adding up.
When the Scale Became More Than a Number
I have been quietly working toward some personal health and weight goals, and recently I started seeing real progress.
When I say quietly, I mean quietly.
Y’all know I do not like announcing things until they are done. We can talk about the details later.
What matters to me right now is not a particular number on the scale. What mattered was realizing what seeing that progress did for me mentally.
At a time when I had been struggling to feel like myself, I suddenly had tangible evidence that the effort I was making still counted. Even during a season when I felt slowed down in so many other areas, I had not been standing still after all.
That realization lifted me more than I expected.
It reminded me that progress in one part of our lives can sometimes create enough momentum to begin tending to another. Seeing one thing change made me start thinking about everything else I wanted to reclaim.
Could I get some of my energy back? Could I become more consistent again? Could I reconnect with my creativity, take better care of my body and begin rebuilding some of the areas of my life that had been neglected?
More importantly, did I really have to fix all of it at once?
Maybe not.
Maybe I simply needed another step.
I Don’t Want the Old Me Back
That realization eventually led me to another question.
For a while, I have thought about “getting back to myself.” It is something we often say when life knocks us down or when circumstances leave us feeling disconnected from the person we used to recognize.
I just want to feel like myself again.
I understand that feeling because I have felt it too.
Lately, however, I have been questioning whether going back should really be the goal.
The woman who existed before this particular season had not experienced everything I have experienced since. She did not know everything I know now. She had not survived everything I have survived, learned the lessons I have learned or been forced to confront some of the things I now understand differently.
Trying to recreate her exactly may not even make sense anymore.
Perhaps the goal is to keep what still serves me, release what no longer does and build from where I am now.
That does not require replacing myself or creating some completely different persona for the sake of appearances.
It requires a revamp.
Why RE:VAMP?
That idea became the inspiration behind this season at I Am Victorious.
RE:VAMP is about looking at what remains, what needs attention and what deserves to be rebuilt.
RE:CHARGE.
RE:CLAIM.
RE:BUILD.
RE:IGNITE.
RE:FOCUS.
RE:DISCOVER.
Health and wellness will naturally be part of this journey because they are part of my journey right now. You may even see a little more movement and fitness around here.
Do not worry. I am not becoming a fitness guru.
This is much bigger than that.
RE:VAMP is about the mind, the body, our purpose and our peace. It is about what happens when life drains something from you and you decide, little by little, to begin pouring something back.
That may mean rebuilding routines, protecting our energy, moving our bodies, rediscovering things we enjoy, setting new goals or learning how to self start when motivation refuses to show up.
It may also mean admitting that we cannot transform every area of our lives at the same time.
There has to be room for baby steps.
Slowed Down Doesn’t Mean Stopped
There are still things I am navigating, particularly concerning my health and wellness, that I am not ready to fully discuss.
Eventually, I may tell more of that story. Right now, I am giving myself permission to live it before I feel obligated to explain it.
What I can say is that this season has reminded me of something I have had to learn more than once: being discouraged does not mean you are defeated, and being tired does not mean you have quit.
Sometimes circumstances genuinely require us to slow down. That does not erase the distance we have already traveled, nor does it mean the work we are doing in the background has stopped mattering.
A small step is still movement.
I have been broken before. I have been discouraged before. I have had seasons when rebuilding felt almost impossible.
I am still here.
Maybe you are rebuilding something too.
Perhaps you have lost your motivation. Maybe your health has changed, your confidence has taken a hit or life simply happened so quickly that one day you looked around and realized you did not quite recognize yourself anymore.
You do not have to rebuild everything today.
Choose one thing you can tend to. Make one decision that moves you in the direction you want to go. Give yourself enough room to take that step before demanding the next ten from yourself.
I will be doing the same.
Piece by piece. Step by step.
September: RE:VAMP
I am not completely where I want to be, and I am not pretending to have figured everything out.
What I do know is that I am moving forward.
Maybe you are too. Let’s see who we become along the way.
