Just Let It Be: Finding Freedom in the Space Between

This month’s theme did not come easily.

Ironically, that may have been the lesson all along.

Every month I spend time reflecting on a theme that feels authentic to where I am in life. Then comes another tradition that has quietly become part of the creative process: choosing the music.

Somehow I always convince myself there is a connection between the artist and the message. Sometimes it is the lyrics. Sometimes it is the mood. Sometimes it is probably just my imagination having a little too much fun. Either way, I enjoy the process.

This month, however, nothing seemed to fit.

Every idea felt forced.

Every title felt incomplete.

Then I realized I had been searching for something I was already living.

Without fully recognizing it, I had intentionally slowed down.

I had given myself permission to rest.

I stepped back from feeling like I always needed to produce something, explain something, or prove something. My focus quietly shifted toward taking care of my health, protecting my peace, strengthening my faith, and simply becoming more present in my own life.

Along the way, I recognized something else.

While social media plays an important role in my mission, it is not real life.

The moments that have shaped me the most this year have happened away from the screen. They have taken place in quiet prayers, meaningful conversations, doctor’s appointments, moments of reflection, laughter with people I love, and ordinary days that no camera could ever fully capture.

Ironically, that has become my favorite part.

The work has never stopped.

It simply looks different now.

I am still growing.

I am still healing.

I am still building.

I am simply learning that slowing down does not mean standing still.

One year ago, I would not have recognized this version of myself.

Last summer was marked by a much faster pace. My instinct was to keep moving no matter how tired I felt. Productivity often felt like purpose. Staying busy felt responsible. Rest usually came with guilt instead of gratitude.

A great deal has changed in just one year.

Then another thought crossed my mind.

Perhaps I was not supposed to formally announce this month’s theme at all.

Perhaps I was simply supposed to let you discover it the same way I did.

Truthfully, I am still figuring life out myself.

That feels strangely appropriate.

Learning to Slow Down

Life has a remarkable way of teaching us what we need to learn.

Recent months have required me to slow down in ways I never expected. My body has needed more care. My mind has needed more quiet. My spirit has needed more room to breathe. None of those lessons arrived according to my plans. Every one of them has reminded me that healing cannot be rushed.

Somewhere along the way, something beautiful happened.

I stopped fighting the slower pace.

I began accepting it.

One realization has become impossible to ignore.

Not every question deserves an immediate answer.

Not every silence needs to be filled.

Not every misunderstanding needs to be corrected.

Not every opportunity requires a response.

Not every opinion deserves our attention.

Accepting those truths has been surprisingly freeing.

Many of us spend enormous amounts of energy trying to stay ahead of every possibility. We analyze conversations. We anticipate outcomes. We replay moments in our minds searching for meaning that may never exist. We convince ourselves that if we think hard enough, work hard enough, or explain ourselves well enough, everything will eventually make sense.

Life rarely works that way.

Some answers arrive with time.

Others never arrive at all.

Peace does not depend on having every missing piece.

Peace often begins when we stop demanding certainty from situations that simply require patience.

Hope While the Answers Unfold

That lesson became even more meaningful after a full weekend of joyful spiritual activities.

Nothing extraordinary happened in the way many people might define extraordinary. There was no dramatic announcement. There was no single moment that changed everything.

What changed was much quieter.

After spending time surrounded by encouragement, meaningful conversations, laughter, worship, and reminders of what truly matters, I realized I had been carrying far less anxiety than I expected.

Not because my circumstances had changed.

They had not.

Questions about my health remain unanswered.

Questions about my future remain unwritten.

Questions about what comes next are still unfolding.

Yet I returned home carrying something I had been searching for all along.

Hope.

Not the kind of hope that depends on having every answer.

The kind that allows us to breathe while the answers are still unfolding.

For the first time in a long time, I realized I did not need certainty in order to experience peace.

Faith allows us to rest before we see the outcome.

That quiet reassurance became one of the greatest gifts I carried home with me.

Summer Was Never Meant to Be Another Race

This season has also reminded me that there is strength in becoming less reactive.

Observation creates clarity.

Silence creates perspective.

Patience reveals character.

Distance often exposes what constant attention never could.

Those lessons have changed the way I approach many areas of my life. I feel less pressure to prove who I am. I feel less urgency to chase validation. I feel more comfortable allowing my actions to speak for themselves while trusting that the people who belong in my life will recognize authenticity without constant explanation.

Perhaps the greatest lesson has been learning to care for myself without guilt.

As a teacher, I have spent years believing every season should be filled with productivity. Summer often becomes another opportunity to accomplish more, begin another project, chase another goal, or stay busy enough to feel productive.

This summer feels different.

For perhaps the first time in a very long time, I have given myself permission to let summer be exactly what it was always meant to be.

A season to decompress.

A season to rest.

A season to recover.

A season to rejuvenate.

There is wisdom in recognizing that we do not have to be constantly producing in order to be growing.

Sometimes growth happens quietly.

Sometimes healing happens while very little appears to be happening at all.

There is no competition.

There is nothing to prove.

There is no prize for exhausting ourselves in every season of life.

There is only the invitation to become more present, more grateful, and more accepting of where we are while remaining hopeful for where we are going.

Hope for the future does not require certainty about the future.

It only requires enough faith to embrace today.

Rest is productive.

Healing is productive.

Reflection is productive.

Protecting your peace is productive.

Taking care of your health is productive.

Those moments are not interruptions to life.

They are part of life.

This perspective has also changed the way I define success.

Success is not always measured by how much we accomplish.

Sometimes success is choosing peace over pressure.

Sometimes success is declining the invitation to unnecessary conflict.

Sometimes success is trusting that what is meant for you does not require endless striving.

Sometimes success is simply allowing yourself to breathe.

That quiet confidence has become one of the greatest gifts of this season.

My pace may look different than it once did. My priorities have certainly changed. Neither change represents weakness. Each one reflects growth that could only come through experience.

Just Let It Be

Perhaps that is why this month’s theme took so long to find. It was never something I needed to create. It was something I needed to notice.

Just let it be.

Those four words are not an invitation to give up. They are an invitation to let go.

Let go of the pressure to have every answer.

Let go of the need to compete.

Let go of unrealistic expectations.

Let go of the belief that every quiet season must immediately become another productive one. Choose instead to trust.

Choose to heal.

Choose to rest.

Choose to hope.

Choose to simply be.

Those words remind us to release the need to control every outcome.

They remind us to trust the process even when we cannot see the destination.

They remind us that our worth has never depended on how loudly we prove it.

Life will continue unfolding one day at a time.

Healing will continue one step at a time.

Growth will continue one lesson at a time.

Perhaps real victory is not found in forcing life to happen exactly as we imagined.

Perhaps real victory is found in becoming the kind of person who can embrace the present with courage, wisdom, gratitude, and peace.

As I continue navigating my own unanswered questions, that is exactly where I hope to remain.

Perhaps the strongest thing we can do is stop trying to force life into our own timeline…

…and simply let it be.
